During our science week last week we we’ re lucky enough to have a visit from Miss Clarke’s friend Corrie; she was amazing and demonstrated how things have a chemical change or a physical change. The children watched  in amazement as: sugar, golden syrup, bicarbonate of soda changed in to honeycomb!!

Science Week – Static Electricity

During ‘ Our Science Week’ year 6 have been looking at electrons and how the cause static electricity. They have experimented with various materials to use static electricity to make objects move such as : water , foil  balls, hair, balloons , bubbles… What to know how? Ben Heason – professional climber

Year 6 have spent their morning with Ben Heason – a professional climber and motivational speaker. Ben was a huge inspiration to our class; he has been a keen traveller and climber since his childhood. He has visited 60 different countries and was the first person ( along with his team mates ) to climb Angel  Falls in Venezuela; it took them three weeks which included sleeping on the cliff edge! He shared his motivational stories along with inspirational pictures of his childhood as well as his adulthood.

Titanic’s 1st Class Passengers

What a fabulous topic lesson we have had! The children accessed information records about the Titanic’s 1st class passengers using their ICT skills; they showed great enthusiasm as they discovered the lives of these real people. Using an Atlas they then identified the passengers locations and plotted their journey on a map. Finally they wrote a mini biography on their favourite passenger.

Talk for Writing

The children used their makaton skills to retell part of the story ‘ Wolves in the walls’; they created their own text map and then went on to preform it to the class.

E-Saftey

Lynn Mansell came into school on Tuesday to raise awareness surrounding internet safety. The children participated in activities to act safely when using the Internet as well as social media sites. It was a very valuable workshop!

A Session with Steve Smallman

Year six have been working with Steve Smallman ( author and illustrator) this week. He joined us first in a whole school assembly to support national story telling week ; year six then had an opportunity to work with him in class. He support the children learning journey of ‘ walking with wolves ‘ and demonstrated how to draw your very own realistic/ cartoon wolf. The children produced some amazing art work!

Blood Soup!

During science the children investigated how the blood works, the components its made up of and their functions. First they used I pads to re-search white blood cells, plasma , platelets and red blood cells then using : white chocolate buttons, raspberry jelly , white rice and orange juice the children had much fun creating their very own bag of blood!

Walking with Wolves

The children enjoyed a special day walking with wolves, they learned about their behaviour, communication, diet , habitat and many more. The children gained a great understanding of the intelligent creatures , which supported them immensely when it come to writing a non chronological report !
